Medical Assistant Description - Job Duties

Being a medical assistant offers very stable employment in the health care industry.  With an aging population that continues to grow the demand for qualified and certified medical assistants will continue to grow for many years. 

You can earn a very nice salary by working as a medical assistant.  If you enjoy being part of a team and working on solving medical problems then this is the field for your.  The specific duties and responsibilities of a Medical Assistant Description will actually vary from state to state. However, there are a few basics that every medical assistant will have to perform. 

As a medical assistant you will have responsibilities of taking patient histories.  This is an important task in order to have a complete and accurate profile of the patient. 

Most likely you will be handling things like charting weight, blood pressure, respiration, and pulse.  You will be the patients first contact and it becomes your job to make them feel safe, secure, and comfortable in your surroundings. 

You may also be responsible for helping the doctor with certain procedures that might be done in the office.  It may be your job to explain these procedures, indicate exactly what will take place, and obtain release forms directly from the patient. 

The Medical Assistant Description of duties and responsibilities most likely will be covered through an orientation program when you are hired.
